So, here you are! You're visiting Tombstone or Bisbee, or just seeing family. You've done the silver mine tour, the OK Corral, seen the Birdcage...... but something is missing? There's something else that is drawing you here to this niche place in the world.
What are those mountains on the horizon with the crazy name? Where is this "Cochise Stronghold" that you keep hearing about? You heard a local mention something about a river that flows north? What is this "Vendetta Ride"? How do I see these things!?
If you stand on Allen Street or look off into the distance and tune out the crowd, you'll hear it, you can smell it, you can feel it.....horses. Horses are the interconnection between the past and the present, our living connection to the history of Cochise County. The people we read about, hear about, the pioneers, ranchers, miners, conquistadors, and Native Americans were carried by horses. The legendary places we dream about, the ghost tales, the distant sites you can't reach with rubber tires, the springs, the shear peaks and cliffsides that decorate our landscape here, were always accessed by horses.
You've stood where they stood, touched what they touched, read the signs and the books, but haven't yet experienced their full "experience". Our predecessors here lived life on the back of a horse, they communicated, fed their families, fought their battles, carried out their vengeance, found their homes, and fought for the right to exist all on the back of horses.
We cannot give you all of their names, we cannot give you their diaries or their recreations and antiques, but we can give you their experience. We've spent a majority of our lives on a horse, We've ridden these places that still have the whispers of the long dead. This longing that you may be chasing here we can offer you a taste of it. Horses are here, our horses are here with minds of their own, personalities that can run deep, and a work ethic that still rivals the horses of yesterday. We ride horses to stay connected to ourselves, to history, the landscape you can't drive to, and to the wild. We form a quiet bond that remains forever. This is why we chose to ride horses.
